Blockbuster and Apple?
I, Cringely is back with a thought-provoking column about Apple and Blockbuster joining forces for movie distribution.
Here’s the scenario:
Take your Video-out iPod to Blockbuster, drop it in a kiosk dock then download from… your choice of 50,000 movies… Take the iPod home, drop it in the dock attached to your TV and watch the movie. H.264 decoding takes place in the iPod in hardware.
Very simple really, and you know what the Technologist Manifesto says about simple solutions, right? Use it.

How long would it take to download a movie to the ipod? Can’t be waiting five minutes per movie to download, I’m a busy man.:)
Gee Why

Good point. It’d be even better if you could order the movie on-line when you’re at work then have the movie download to your house so when you get home, the movie is already there.
But then you’d need a home Mac device. Hmmmm….maybe something’s coming.
