More On Popularity and Likeability in the Workplace
This topic came up before, but the Honolulu Advertiser has another, very similar article about likeability being a very valuable job skill. The main gist is that coworkers would rather partner with someone who’s nice and likeable (but incompetent) than a competent jerk. I’d agree with that.
The article also categorizes workers as four different types:
- Competent jerk – knows a lot but is unpleasant to deal with
- Lovable fool – doesn’t know much but is great to have around
- Lovable star – both smart and likeable
- Incompetent jerk
Which one are you (no, honestly)?

I must be the Incompetent Fool. Doesn’t know a lot and doesn’t know much. You wouldn’t want to work with me.

What’d be more interesting is to have your peers (anonymously) categorize you.
Still though, an Incompetent Fool is better than being in the Jerk category.
Who says you don’t know a lot? Didn’t you win last year’s NCAA March Madness event? You musta known the Heels were taking the crown. 😉

What about Defense Lawyers….that will keep you from a death sentence. If he/she was the best of the best but a complete jackass….. Wouldn’t you hire these talented guy/gal? For all that matters, if you needed a operation god forbid a brain surgeon to be more specific, if he/she was a total jackass would you pass on this guy/gal.
Just asking……….
A survey would be interesting

We’re talking coworkers, someone you work with, not someone representing you. Of course, I’d want the best representation, legal or medical, but that’s a little different.
What would matter is if you were on the same legal or medical team with the jackass (JA). Would you be dedicated and do the best of your abilities working with the JA, or would you do the minimum as quick as possible to get away from the JA? That has an outcome if you are represented by that team. For example, the surgeon may be the best but is a jerk. The nurses and other doctors may do the minimum to help him during surgery, and you are the patient. You want to go in to surgery with a team like that?
