Kid’s Day and Kau Inoa
I missed seeing this firsthand but for today’s Kid’s Day drive, KHON2’s Manolo Morales and Trini Kaopuiki are having their annual challenge to see who can sell more newspapers and drum up the most donations. The KHON cameras were following Manolo as he started his sales campaign around Downtown Honolulu.
He approaches one guy drinking coffee and wearing a Kau Inoa t-shirt and asks him if he wants to buy the Kid’s Day edition of the Honolulu Advertiser. The guy replies, “Why? I no can read.”
Then Manolo asks, “Then how about making a donation?“
The guy digs around his pockets and says, “I only get quarter.”

I constantly wonder, and am even sometimes amazed, how news stations pick people they interview…
