What’s on my iPod?
To help the Tabasco Man figure how which video iPod to get, here is what’s currently on my iPod.
I got a 60 GB iPod that comes out to about 55 GB after formatting. As the graphic shows, with my music, videos, photos, and other junk, about 18 GB is left free. I mostly use my iPod for music but do have a few videos and pictures.
A (new) typical hour-long TV show bought from the iTunes Store is about 500 MB (Grey’s Anatomy, Let the Angels Commit, Season 3, Episode 6, 1617 kbps bit rate). A Bones freebie is about 480 MB for 44 minutes and 1525 kbps bit rate. The SNL Best of Will Ferrell goes for 1h:11m but is only 331 MB with a bit rate of 638 kbps. I haven’t yet downloaded a full length movie, and my pre-order of Pirates of Caribbean doesn’t arrive until December. I did encode a Dragon Ball Z GT DVD into an MPEG4 format, and that 90-minute anime came out to 780 MB at a bit rate of 1196 kbps.
So, about half a gig for 45 minutes of good quality video appears to be a good rule of thumb for sizing capacity.

Mahalos. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
28GB of music?!? That’s crazy.

Nah, I need 16 days of non-stop music just in case.
I bet T has more music than that (unless the file encoding is smaller).
