Apple Sued Over iPhone Trademark, BFD!
So now we know that Cisco is suing Apple over the use of the iPhone name that Cisco/Linksys has trademarked. Apple knew about the trademark since they were negotiating with Cisco on the use of the iPhone name, so why did Steve Jobs go ahead and call Apple’s new cell phone/iPod/Internet communicator the iPhone?
Cause he got the cojones that’s why! Steve knew about the trademark and that negotiations were still underway, but he didn’t care. He went ahead anyways, damn trademark and all. You gotta love his Steveness for that move.
What’s the worst that can happen with this maneuver? If Cisco wins the lawsuit then Apple will have to change the name of the iPhone, but it ain’t even in production yet while the FCC goes through their months-long approval process. So Apple will have to change the name of a non-production product. BFD! And all the hoopla that’s surrounding this lawsuit (and its outcome) is just generating more buzz for Apple’s iPhone so they get even more publicity.
On his decision to challenge Cisco by using the iPhone name, Steve must have been listening to Snoop Dogg:
I’m a gangsta, but y’all knew that
Da Big Bo$$ Dogg, yeah I had to do that
I keep a blue flag hanging out my backside
But only on the left side, yeah that’s the Crip side
Ain’t no other way to play the game the way I playWhen the pimp’s in the crib ma
Drop it like it’s hot
Drop it like it’s hot
Drop it like it’s hot
