The Finals on Dancing with the Stars
The Finals of Dancing with the Stars are here with Laila Ali, Apolo Anton Ohno, and Joey Fatone vying for the title. Round 1 of the Finals included two dances, one picked by the judges and the second, a freestyle open to any style of dance. Round 2 on Tuesday night has the finalists dancing their favorite dance of this season, and the Season 4 winner being crowned.
Laila Ali started off the Finals in the dreaded leadoff position and dancing the difficult paso doble. But with a strong entrance and a powerful, dramatic performance, she did well scoring 10-9-10. Her freestyle wasn’t as good and she looked unnatural and out of her element with the freedom of the freestyle. Stripping man candy (and partner) Maksim Chmerkovskiy at the end of the routine surely didn’t hurt their scores of 9-8-9.
Apolo Anton Ohno and Julianne Hough were asked to dance the rumba and although much better than earlier in the season, they still didn’t nail this dance getting a 9-9-10. While dramatic, this rumba was way too fast for a romantic dance. Apolo and Julianne used their speed to bust a move in their freestyle routine. Though they didn’t have Members Only jackets, the throwback vibe was there. But at times, I thought Apolo couldn’t keep up with the hip-hopping Julianne. Still great with scores of 10-10-10.
Joey Fatone and Kym Johnson continue to razzle dazzle the crowd. Their cha cha with the marionette doll beginning was creative, but their non-traditional interpretation hurt their scores, especially with Len. 9-8-9. In their freestyle, Joey and Kym went electric with their outfits and dance moves. Kym was flying around like a Barbie doll for most of the freestyle. Unreal lifts. 10-10-10.
I’m thinking it’s between Apolo and Joey, but Laila must be getting the love of the fans. Let’s see who can recap their favorite dance on Tuesday night and capture the title.
