Beauty Ain’t But a Thing on Dancing with the Stars
Who would have thought that after two weeks of competition on Dancing with the Stars, two of the show’s beauties would be sent home? In Week 1, model Josie Maran was eliminated and in Week 2 Abercrombie & Fitch man candy, Albert Reed, quickstepped his way off the dance floor. Albert had some skills, but beauty ain’t but a thing on DWTS.
Week 2 performances saw the separation of the top tier of this season’s dancers. Mel B, Marrie Osmond (?!?), Helio Castroneves, and Sabrina Bryan have shown the complete package so far. They can dance, they engage the audience, and most importantly, they are having infectious fun.
In the middle of the pack are Jennie Garth, Cameron Mathison, Floyd Mayweather, and Jane Seymour. These dancers are missing one element that’s holding them back. Jennie needs to relax. Cameron needs to just do it and stop thinking so much. Floyd got to suppress his boxing instincts and training and embrace ballroom. Jane has to overcome her own renowned image of elegance (which may be too tough to do).
And in the bottom, we have Mark Cuban and Wayne Newton. Unfortunately, these guys are missing a few elements to win at DWTS. Mark tries the hardest and puts in long hours of practice, but the dancing gene isn’t in him. His recent hip replacement surgery can’t be helping either. When him and Kym are dancing, you can see how much better Kym is. With the other couples, you see some parity in the dancing levels. Bloggers may help keep Cuban around a little while longer. Wayne Newton, the legendary 65-year old entertainer, dances like he’s 65-years old. Unless he can out debonair the competition, Wayne’s going back to Vegas soon enough.
Some random notes. The music of DWTS continues to be one of its strengths. Watching the performances accompanied by contemporary music, I’m sure has an impact with the younger generation. Who knew you could ballroom to Nelly’s Ride Wit Me, a-ha’s Take on Me, or Nena’s 99 Luftballoons? Cameron and Edyta are a charismatic couple. If you saw them at the club, you’d say “damnnn.” The professional dancers are also therapists, motivators, and life coaches, dealing with all the problems and issues of the stars.

I don’t think I was as big a 90210 fan as MSO was, but Jeannie is actually Jennie.
A sad note to add.
