Hawaii Lingo, the Latest Technology Naming Fad
First there was the wiki then more and more technologies/products/services named after Hawaii lingo. For example, there’s the human-powered search engine Mahalo.com. Google’s OpenSocial social network platform has the internal code name of “maka-maka” as in high maka maka.
Now, FileMaker has announced Bento, the stylish personal database for Leopard. Maybe not the most Hawaii-based lingo, but go to Shirokiya or any plate lunch place and you’re sure to find a bento.

speaking of hawaii-linked tech terms, did you happen to catch the recent acquisition by 3M corp? Bondo corporation (11/7/07)
as everyone knows, Bondo corp. took its name from the hawaiian term for ‘heavy makeup on a wahine’; eg, ‘ho, she stay wearing massive bondo tonite!’ 😛
always happy to help,

Ha! And here I thought bondo came from Latin. As in bondo, bondare, bondedi, bondatum. I stand corrected!
