You might have heard, but Marlee Matlin was the latest star eliminated from Dancing with the Stars. Looking absolutely fantastic next to the Mambo King, Marlee received the least votes after a shaky routine.
Three guys and three gals remain as the show heads toward dual dance routines.
It was only a matter of time, but Kristi Yamaguchi and partner Mark Ballas received the first perfect score of Season 6 of Dancing with the Stars. As Kristi and Mark continue to dominate this season, I can feel the show’s producers making a mental note never to invite a figure skater, especially an Olympic Gold Medalist, to compete again. Sorry Nancy Kerrigan.
Kristi is making it look so easy, and the show is turning out to be everyone versus Kristi. In all the pre-dance vignettes, everyone mentions something about going after Kristi.
With four weeks of competition left, you can definitely see the separation of dance skill levels. I’m sorry, but it’s time for Marlee Matlin to go. She’s had a great run, but she’s not part of the elite group that should be facing each other. Same with Shannon Elizabeth. If she’s going to stay in the game, then as a poker player, she’s got to go all in and pray for a great flop, turn, and river.
Jason Taylor and Edyta had a mediocre night but still don’t have to worry. Cristian de la Fuente and Cheryl Burke’s sophisticated foxtrot showed they still belong along with Mario and Karina whose overly hot rumba split the judges’ decisions. Even Marissa Jaret Winokur is making strides balancing her showman personality and dance style, but is she part of the elite? I don’t think so.
The pride of Los Banos, Ryan Scott, was sent packing from Top Chef, eliminated for bringing California flair to a Chicago Bears tailgate party. His non-traditional tailgate dishes didn’t wow the judges, but he did seem to be a fan favorite after working the crowds with his metrosexual charm.
But in the land of da Bears, tough defense, and Rex Grossman as QB, flair got no place. While Ryan’s been shaky throughout the season, I thought he might be making a turnaround after a pretty good showing in Episode 4 Film Food and doing well in Episode 5’s Quick Fire challenge. I thought Nikki was going to go after she ran out of food for the judges and seemed to not make an effort with her sausage and peppers dish.
This episode was a little amusing but still the overall season is pretty boring. I don’t know if this year’s chefs are keeping themselves reserved or if they’re all ultra competitive, not wanting to show any flaws. But there’s not much to engage the viewers. Even continual winner Stephanie isn’t exciting to watch. Though she keeps winning or being in the top, there’s nothing there making me root for her.
For the remaining chefs, here are some inspirational words from Chicago legend, Michael Jordan.
I can’t remember how many times I’ve seen Hawaii Department of Transportation spokesman, Scott Ishikawa, on television. Anytime there was something, anything related to travel, Scott was there explaining things.
Because of his wide exposure, I always thought he had plans for running for office. Who in Hawaii doesn’t know his face and therefore would vote for him? Well, maybe Scott’s political path is now underway after he resigned from his DOT position.
After upgrading to the latest Mac Office 2008, I think I’m about to revert back to the older 2004 version. The latest Office suite is sooo slow on my MacBook Pro (2 GHz Core Duo and 2 GB RAM). Word, Excel, and PowerPoint take forever to start up.
And even once started, performance of these apps is sluggish. I’ve also come across memory issues running 2008. In Excel, I’ve actually had low memory errors several times. No problems with Excel 2004. This is the first time I’ve had memory issues on my MBP.
The only app I might keep around is the newest Entourage. It’s still slow, but seems better able to handle my gigs of email that I’ve collected over the years. Entourage 2004 kept stalling and occasionally crapping out, but so far so good with Entourage 2008.
I also have Office 2008 installed (legitimately) on my home iMac and that feels slow as well, but that’s a new machine!
Not sure when this happened, but Club 939’s web site got an eye-catching overhaul. Gone is the site with basic info about Hawaii’s finest gentlemen’s club. Now, the site features upcoming events, pictures from previous events, and yes, even an online store for your very own 939 paraphernalia (and some of the stufflooks familiar).
Be sure to sign up for their mailing list to learn about upcoming events!
Hey, -s, be sure to tell your web guy to fix a typo in the HTML title tag.
Not enough evidence for you? Then how about this 90’s Night Out adventure checking out Seduction, the Cover Girls, and C+C Music Factory, followed by an almost rendezvous at Club 939, but instead ending with Sex on the Beach? Now that’s damn saucy!
Tried to get a jump start on the weekend but instead had a delayed weekend. On Friday, we planned to head to the Iolani Family Fair when they opened. But we had to wait for our water heater installation, so a lunch arrival time turned into a dinner arrival.
Iolani Fair 2008
On Saturday, we were going for dim sum at Royal Garden in the Ala Moana Hotel at 11:30. Turned out closer to 12:30 after finding parking at a packed Ala Moana. The new Nordstrom’s parking structure has tons of covered parking, so if you’re willing to walk a bit, save some time and head straight there. While at the Ala Moana Hotel, saw quite a few attendees of the Comic Convention(?) walking around dressed up in some outlandish outfits.
The new Nordstrom’s area is impressive. A little different feel from the rest of Ala Moana since it was designed new, not just retrofitted from the existing mall spaces. Lots more stores added and the relocated Williams Somoma is huge. I didn’t go inside the new Nordstrom but did get a Mexican Mocha from their eBar.
Earlier in the week, our gas water heater gave way, and we got a replacement Kenmore from Sears. Only problem was installation was scheduled for next week! That’s a long time without hot water.
We called the contracted installers, AK Appliance, to see if we could get an earlier date. Lo and behold, Alan, the owner of All Kine Appliance, squeezed us in today. Since we had young kids in the household, he made an exception and juggled his schedule to get our heater installed. Thanks Alan!
If you need any type of appliance installation or repair, give AK Appliance a call at 623-4872. And if you get Alan, ask him about how he got started in the appliance repair business. It’s a good story about old time Hawaii community.
Make no doubt about it, DWTS fans. There can only be one MILF on Dancing with the Stars, and Kristi Yamaguchi made that very clear on Week 5. Until now, the fashion-made-over Priscilla Presley had the most MILF-able qualities, but then the drive and determination of an Olympic gold medalist emerged in a hair dropping rumba.
Kristi has always performed well technically the entire season. Her recurring critique by the judges is to show more emotion, connect with her partner, and match the moods of the dances. This week’s rumba made Kristi the Queen of the MILF-dom and bansihed Priscilla from the competition.
Like Mars Blackmon exclaimed, “It’s gotta be the shoes!” but for Kristi, it’s gotta be her hair. As soon as Kristi’s hair went down, her MILF appeal went up. Watch at the 45 second mark.
So MILF-alicious!
This season is now halfway through with seven couples remaining (4 women and 3 guys). Mario and Karina started off the show with a lot of energy while Jason Taylor and Edyta continue their strong performances.
Was it only me or does Shannon Elizabeth remind you of the robot from Lost in Space? Danger Will Robinson! Shannon is so tall and gangly and can’t fully command her limbs like the professional athletes can (the judges are always amazed at Jason Taylor’s movements).
Cristian and Cheryl Burke in the bottom two? Worse than Marlee Matlin and Marissa Jaret Winokur? No Wino-way!
