Amazon Music Versus iTunes
While looking for Total Dance 2008, Volume 2, I found it for sale at both the iTunes Store and Amazon’s MP3 store. iTunes is selling this new release for $9.99 while Amazon has it for $7.99. Normally, it’s a no-brainer for me, and I stick with iTunes, but with a credit at Amazon, I figured why not.
Buying stuff from Amazon is always easy with its 1-Click buying system. Downloading digital music requires the Amazon MP3 Downloader application. Download speed of purchases is pretty slow. It’s fast enough but did take several minutes to download all 16 tracks. Download speed on iTunes blazes but not a big deal.
After downloading my purchase, I was notified of a newer version of the MP3 Downloader application. I installed the newer version and as a thank you, was given a free song, Energy by The Apples in Stereo. Never heard of this group or this single, but free is good, and I did verify my Amazon orders to see this was indeed free.
And as advertised, the MP3 Downloader added any purchased music to my iTunes library. A simple sync and my new 256-kbps, DRM-free music is loaded on my iPhone and iPod. Maybe a few more music purchases from Amazon?
