From the Taping of Glee
The gleeful call went out to all Glee-ks to attend the taping of the last episode of the inaugural season of the television series, Glee. Luckily, pulpy reader and contributor @jessicashig was invited to attend today’s taping, and here’s her story.
Warning. Minor spoilers ahead.
This taping is for episode 13, the final installment of the show’s original order with Fox. Due to extended hours the previous night, the scheduled 8:00 taping was delayed until 10:00 with 50 fans waiting since 7:30 am. While the theater holds about 1400, about 200 lucky fans were invited to sit in the upper balcony area with the main lower area filled with paid extras and the dolls seen in the this photo.
All mobile phones and cameras were confiscated at the doorway so sorry, no inside pics to show.
Today’s taping focused solely on the musical performance for episode 13. The song for this show is The Rolling Stones’ You Can’t Get What You Want.
The highlight of the morning was meeting all the stars and the writers and producers of Glee who came to meet the fans and answer a few questions. Some excerpts:
- It takes about eight days to finish one episode of Glee and the musical performances are done last.
- The original concept for the show was for a darker, more twisted story line centered around the salacious relationships found in show choirs.
- Favorite musical performances done by the actors? Van Halen’s Jump and Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors(?).
- Kevin McHale, the wheelchaired member of Glee (not the all time Celtics great) is perfectly able bodied and has had trouble not moving his legs or tapping to the beat.
Though our pulpy Glee-k couldn’t spend the entire day at the taping, after 3 hours, most of the time was spent preparing the set. The final taped performance would have been hours away, so we won’t know how it turns out until this show finally airs.
Glee starts on Wednesday, September 9, and just to tide fans over, the show released a new promo.
