Yes, Hawaii does lead the US in the percent of millionaires per overall population. A millionaire is defined as a “household… with $1 million or more in investable or liquid assets, excluding sponsored retirement plans and real estate,” and Hawaii has 28,363 of them.
Here’s the top five:
- Hawaii (6.4 percent)
- Maryland (6.3 percent)
- New Jersey (6.2 percent)
- Connecticut (6.2 percent)
- Virginia (5.5 percent)
Personally, I think a fair share of Hawaii millionaires live in Mauka, the stomping grounds of the Tabasco Man’s expanding kingdom.
