My iPhone 5 Questions
Some of the questions I have regarding the new iPhone 5 with 4G LTE speeds.
- Does AT&T have LTE 4G coverage in Hawaii? Within 3 months, we will according to this release.
- Will AT&T charge a premium for this high speed service? Supposedly not as gleaned from this statement from AT&T.
- Can I keep my grandfathered unlimited data plan with AT&T? Same reasoning as the last question.
- SIM to Micro SIM. How do I go about “converting” an iPhone 3GS SIM to a micro SIM for an iPhone 4? I have an AT&T GoPhone SIM working in an iPhone 3G (now a 3GS). Will AT&T swap out this SIM for a micro SIM that can be used in my hand-me-down iPhone 4?
- Black or white?

Hey Gee Why!
To answer your questions:
#1 – The switch for 4G LTE coverage in Hawaii is going to flip sometime in late October to early November and I have to admit that it’s pretty awesome. The past couple of times I went to Vegas (which is an LTE market already) with an LTE device, the speed difference between 3G/”4G” and true 4G LTE is almost night and day. The only drawback that I could see is that it does eat up battery power faster.
#2 – Nope. The current plans will work with iPhone 5 at no extra cost.
#3 – Yup, you can keep that valuable unlimited plan that you have without having to switch it.
#4 – Not exactly sure about this one. Do you have a regular billing plan with a GoPhone SIM on the 3GS? Or a GoPhone SIM with a prepaid plan on the 3GS? Either way, I’m pretty sure you should be able to swap it out to a iPhone 4 micro SIM at no extra charge.
#5 – This one’s purely up to you. =)
Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for the info! Greatly needed to figure things out. Seems like I’ll have to preorder my phone since I can’t make it early enough on release day.
