Computer Angst?
When I saw the article, 65 Percent of Americans Spend More Time with Their Computer than Their Spouse, I was going to forward it to our resident expert to get her witty and biting opinions. But after reading the (misnamed) article, I saw some interesting facts I wanted to comment on.
The average consumer has experienced computer troubles eight times – about every four months – over the last three years.
The average American is wasting 12 hours per month – the equivalent of half a weekend – due to problems with their home computer.
A majority of Americans (52%) describe their most recent experience with a computer problem as one of anger, sadness or alienation.
That last one about anger, sadness or alienation is pretty interesting since I never thought you could experience these feelings just by using a computer. I guess this 52% never walked into an Apple Store to see what’s a’rockin. But Windows users, don’t worry, Vista is coming out real soon, and it’ll solve all your woes. Trust me! Just ask Walt Mossberg and Erika Jonietz, senior editor of MIT Technology Review.
