Why the 93.9 Wake-Up Crew Rocks!
I hope you caught this morning’s broadcast of Rory Wild and the Wake-Up Crew on 93.9 to see why they rock! Last night, Rory went to the Cazimero concert at the Waikiki Shell and told the best rendition of the hilarity that ensued.
Rory masterfully played up the introduction and early goings of the concert then brought it back to reality recounting the drunken state of Haumea Ho, wife of legendary Don Ho, and how Kimo Kahoano tried to make the situation better while he was drunk too. Add to that Robert Cazimero telling a drunken-Don-Ho-song-singing Kimo to “get off my god damn stage.” How much better can it get?
The details… the Cazimeros had a May Day concert where they wanted to pay tribute to the late Don Ho. As a surprise during the concert, Haumea Ho was introduced to dance a hula to her former husband. But… as Rory described, she was schnockered. She actually fell down on stage not once, not twice, but at least three times. Finally, she was escorted off the stage, but then Kimo Kahoano comes on stage to set things right. But… he was schnockered too. After letting out an emotional (and slurred) speech, he started singing Don Ho’s greatest hits, at least four songs, before Robert Cazimero lost his cool (rightfully so) and told Kimo to get off his stage. Robert even tried to grab the mic out of Kimo’s hands but couldn’t do it. Finally Kimo left after the damage was done.
The Honolulu Advertiser reports the entire incident like this. Thanks goodness for Rory’s first hand report! I haven’t checked YouTube to see if anyone captured these moments, but I hope something’s there. The Wake-Up Crew has a podcast section featuring the “best of” over the years, but I hope they include Rory’s story as a separate podcast episode.
