Catching Today’s Apple Event
Thanks to live blogging of Engadget and MacNN, I’m keeping up with Apple’s Event. So far, an improved .Mac service has been announced (haven’t looked at the details yet), new aluminum iMacs are out, and Steve Jobs is demoing iLife ’08.
It looks like iMovie now does a video clip library that I’ve wanted for some time. How else can you manage a hodge podge collection of video clips?
iWeb has been updated to include mainstream features and now integrates with Google services. You can add Google Maps and AdSense ads into iWeb-created pages and sites. Supports domain names too. Wonder if you can sync iWeb sites from more than one computer. Right now, I couldn’t (easily) use two different computers to edit the same iWeb site.
.Mac storage got a boost going from 1GB of space for subscribers to 10GB! Good thing, I’ve been storing my blog images on my .Mac account and space was getting low. This 10x increase is good.
It’s over. No more “One more thing…” to end the event. A Q&A session is going on now.
So I’m thinking a new 20-in iMac would match my 20-in aluminum Apple display currently connected to my PowerMac… the iMac must do dual video right? So then I’ll need to replace my 20-in display with something…

$79 each for iWork ’08 and iLife ’08 don’t seem too bad.
BTW, how much do you pay for your .Mac?
Gee Why

Yeah, the prices aren’t bad but there’s never an upgrade price. You always gotta buy a new version at full price. There might be an education or govt price. Be sure to ask.
I pay for the family pack for .Mac which costs little more ($180 per year versus $100 per year for single .Mac). The family pack gives several accounts which I use for other family members.
I would caution folks about getting .Mac. I still don’t think you get the value of what you’re paying. There are other alternatives out there and cheaper. I have a bunch of stuff on .Mac so I’m stuck. You do get benefits like the Backup app and other stuff once in awhile.
I keep hoping that it gets better and better especially with their relationship with Google and their services.
I need to tally up all my Internet services bills to see what I pay… domain names, dreamhost, .mac, and others… 🙁
