UH Sports Double Dip
Went to watch the UH Men’s basketball team take on Illinois and got treated to a double dip as the football game was shown in the Stan Sheriff Center during breaks. The basketball game itself was pretty empty even with a “powerhouse” like Illinois in town.
It was kinda funny when the football game was showing since it’d get cut off right when the action started and the basketball game resumed play. When the second half of the basketball game was going to start, the football team need a crucial first down to keep their chances alive. All the fans were watching the football game, but the basketball game had to start. So an akamai (or just lucky) ref called for the towel boys to wipe up a (phantom) wet spot on the floor. That took about a minute where the fans saw the Warriors continue their drive. Nice.
Thanks to the Greatest Legal Mind Ever, we had our good seats with a great view. Here are some pics I took during the game. Bobby Nash had a monster game worthy of a team captain. Lots of guys got playing time in the first half but not sure why that stopped in the second half. The guys that did get PT looked winded at crunch time. Got to see Adhar Mayen, Paul Campbell, and Alex Veit play some minutes. Most of the bench guys came in and got an offensive tip in for their first baskets.
Even with their flashy new green and white Adidas, the Bows fell again at the end of the game. Rookie mistakes was their downfall. Confusion of the final play by the freshman point, Nitoto, and an unclear timeout by rookie head coach Bob Nash led to an anti-climatic conclusion. Most fans were wondering if the game was over.
The biggest highlight of the night had to have been watching the football team beat Nevada on two field goals, well one real one and one disqualified one. Even with the basketball game going, all screens shifted to the football game so fans were screaming even when the basketball players were doing routine stuff like lining up for a free throw shot. Here’s what it looked and sounded like in the Stanley after the winning field goal.
And lastly, I think this was Jeffrey Jordan, the oldest son of Michael. As a team walk-on, he didn’t play in the close game and never took off his warmups so I couldn’t see his name or number. But I think this is Jeffrey, not Michael, Jordan.
Sorry, blurry on YouTube. This .Mac Gallery version is a little bit better.
