How to Wow the Crowds Like Steve Jobs
BusinessWeek Online has a quick analysis of what makes presentations by Steve Jobs so captivating and compelling.
Here’s the short list:
- Sell the benefit
- Practice, Practice, and Practice Some More
- Keep It Visual
- Exude Passion, Energy, and Enthusiasm
- “And One More Thing…”
Good points if you ever have to do any kind of presenting. Sitting in on boring or lame presentations, I start critiquing why the presentation or slides are bad – too many words to read too quickly, only text shown, graphics don’t support the message of the presentation, poor wording or grammar, and my favorite, the presenter really has no clue on the material he’s presenting.
“This project will instantiate web services for our customer to consume…” I bet he doesn’t even use any kind of web service in his daily routine but yet is trying to tell us why we need their product. At this point, I tend to tune out, nod my head and smile, making believe I’m really listening.
