Don Quijote Downed
From Holiday Mart to Daiei to Don Quijote and now razed to rubble, the former Don Quijote location in Kailua is now completely downed. Work continues to eventually turn this locale into a Target.

The Don Quijote location in Kailua is no longer, but for a few days, it’s home to Hawaii Five-0. Look closely, is that Danno’s Camaro back there? Why, yes it is!
Don Quijote Kailua closed its business on Saturday, February 5, and already their signage is no more.
After three decades of business in the Kailua area, today was the last day for Kailua’s Don Quijote. Here are some pictures. Thanks for the memories, Don Quijote.
No, I didn’t spot a Farmers Insurance Hawaii advertisement at the Kailua Don Quijote. Instead, I saw some of their strange items for sale. Things like this…
The Daiei store in Kailua finally changed their name over to Don Quijote. While they were under Don Quijote ownership, the outside sign still said Daiei. As of Friday, June 15, the new Don Quijote sign is up (and employees have new red Don Quijote shirts). And nothing portrays the eclectic cultural mix of foods at […]
Not sure when this happened but Ba-Le, a mainstay in Kailua for decades, is now closed. The storefront now looks like this. From its days in Don Quijote then moving down to Hekili Street, this franchise provided affordable and tasty Vietnamese sandwiches and other dishes. I loved their iced coffee ratcheted up caffeine levels. Sadly, the […]
The sign is officially up – COMING SOON. And “Coming Soon” for the Target location in Kailua actually means two months with the opening set for March 8, 2015. From what I understand, there’s a market to make and sell service animal garments to disguise regular pets. Then pet owners can bring their beloved pets into stores with them. I guess that’s why Don Quijote has this sign out front. Also, the ADA defines “service animals” clearly. Here’s one important takeaway point: Dogs whose […]
Despite all the action going on at Windward Mall, there is something that’s not popping. Sadly, the Star Advertiser is reporting that longtime mall tenant Marukai is closing its doors in early 2013. Yeah, I can’t believe it either, and I didn’t realize they were there for 10 years. No matter your reason for being […]
During their commute, folks in the Kailua area have probably seen these Eye Eye signs peppering the neighborhood. But what do these signs mean? Right now, these signs mean that Hawaii Five-0 is filming nearby! Yep, McG could be taking down a bad guy. Danno could be booking’em. Chin Ho Kelly could be riding a […]
