Starbucks Handcrafted Sodas Coming June 24
I guess the trials went well since it appears Starbucks is prepping to roll out their handcrafted sodas on June 24, 2014. Yep, sodas, not tea or coffee. I spied a “soda fizzer” (my term) at a local SBUX waiting to be installed.
What’s Old Is New Again
That was fast! The Starbucks neighboring Macy’s Ala Moana has undergone a renovation and is ready for business. Looking at pictures taken by fellow caffeine addict, @yoda808, the renovation primarily appears to be cosmetic, but then again, the location wasn’t closed for that long, and it still is a tiny space so what can you really do? Not clearly discernible from the pictures is the lack of indoor seating. No longer do tables line the inside of the glass walls.
Structurally, things look the same although the drink pickup counter is nearer the middle, no longer at the end by the water pipe. Also, the pickup counter is flanked on each side by espresso machines (sadly not Clovers).
I can’t recall if the original layout had two espresso makers. If there were, the two machines were side by side, crowding the baristas. This new layout potentially provides a balanced piston action to fire out customer drinks. Hopefully this means shorter wait times in this popular pit stop.
Starbucks in Ala Moana is back at full strength with two locales at Hawaii’s largest shopping mall.
Now about the aesthetic redesign, here’s one opinion of the old but new look…
Peet’s Not Pau in Kailua
Peet’s is making progress with their Kailua location, but it looks like they have a ways to go before opening. And it appears they’re expecting a large contingent of customers riding in on bikes.
Gilly Hicks Ala Moana Closing
The unthinkable is approaching in 2014. Gilly Hicks is closing its doors, and not just the Ala Moana location, but all its stores. While the GH line of intimates will live on virtually, the physical stores will be extinct.
It was a short run for Gilly Hicks in Hawaii with a dramatic opening in 2012. Last Christmas, the store seemingly toned it down. Even though, the store is still young and full of vitality, apparently it couldn’t compete against the “jugs of nought” known as Victoria’s Secrets. Aren’t you going to miss the distinct scent of Gilly Hicks that permeates that wing of Ala Moana?
Pure Deliciousness Coming to Windward Mall
So Fun Factory is coming to Windward Mall and right down the way, Hokulani Bake Shop is setting up shop. Remember the corner spot of Gloria Jeans née Scrambled née Mocha Java Cafe?
Yup, it’s getting remade into a spot of pure deliciousness in a scant few weeks. Come beginning of November, the Windward side can enjoy plenty of cupcakes from this longtime local favorite. Just in time for the holidays!
Soon More Fun at Windward Mall
Windward Mall is maximizing its family friendly strategy by continuing to add stores aimed at kids. Joining the mall’s community will be Fun Factory.
The factory of fun is opening on the floor level next to the kids play area. It’ll be in the space vacated by Koolau Pets.
