TVPad No Longer
Well that explains it. Legal action has taken down the service provided by TVPad. So all those TVPad channels are no longer working. Even changing the DNS server is no longer a workaround.
So it’s no longer beware the TVPad. It’s now don’t buy the TVPad.
R2D2 Humidifier
Yes, that’s correct. That little R2 unit is more than an X-Wing co-pilot and holder of Death Star plans. That droid will also humidify the air around you. Of course, he does need some help in the form of bottled water, but plug that in and enjoy Dagobah-like conditions… unless this is not the droid you’re looking for.
My Pebble Rocks On
Yes, my Pebble watch rocks on still. After a display on the fritz and a broken band, I though the transition to the AppleWatch was inevitable. But not so fast.
An inquiry to Pebble’s customer service led me to a replacement unit at no cost. No cost! Even after originally backing the project on Kickstarter years ago. Even better, the replacement unit shipped and arrived right before Christmas, giving me an unexpected gift. Thanks Pebble!
Not James Daniel III
This is not James Daniel III of the Howard Bison and the NCAA men’s basketball leading scorer. He dropped 29 points on the Warriors on Saturday night in a UH victory.
It looked like the Bison were staying at the Ala Moana Hotel as I saw logoed shirts on hotel guests and what appeared to be Bison players checking out.
When Else Do You Barack and Chill?
Other than being stuck in traffic as the First Family’s motorcade makes its way to an Air Force One departure, when are the other times you Barack and chill? It’s got to be all those times Hawaii residents experience power outages, inexplicably when POTUS is in the islands. This started back in December 2008 when Mr. Obama’s visit coincided with a 12-hour, island-wide outage, and yes, we used candles from Pay ‘n Save.
In 2010, the power outage precipitated POTUS’ arrival as Ala Moana went dark leading up to Christmas. This untimely exit of electricity brought on the first sentiments of Barack and Chill with this sign offering irate shoppers apologetic “Mahalo’z.”
According to my blog posts, I did not record a power outage for the next five years although I don’t believe it. In any case, the next Barack and chill moment came in 2015 as stormy weather blacked out Hawaii.
Then almost one year later as we left 2015 and entered 2016, there was Hawaii’s (or at least Kailua’s) Barack and chill moment. With gusty winds clearing the skies, total darkness unveiled our starry skies.
During this most recent outage, as I pondered the Pulpconnection conspiracy theories about the timing of these outages, I sat back, realized, and defined “Barack and chill.” Perhaps, these nighttime outages could have led to Netflix and chill opportunities, especially if you queue up Barack Obama’s “Night” summer playlist on Spotify. But for me, this Barack and chill moment meant doing dishes by flashlight.
“Barack and Chill” Defined
I’m defining “Barack and Chill” as:
What Hawaii residents have to patiently do while awaiting delays caused by President Barack Obama’s annual holiday stay.
If you don’t Barack and chill, you wouldn’t handle delays like this as the freeways are shutdown for the Presidential motorcade making its way to Hickam for their departure.

Researching Steelcase Amia Chair
Perhaps this is the second sign of excess during the holidays. The first sign was a worn out toilet handle. Now comes the search for a better chair that offers more support, specifically the Steelcase Amia. Steelcase has some great chairs but at great prices, but the Amia is somewhat affordable, especially if it lasts for years. Unfortunately, if I were to buy one, I think I’d have to purchase the Amia without trying it out beforehand.
New Toto Toilet Lever
Maybe this is a sign of too much good eating over the holidays. The handle on our Toto toilet is breaking with small plastic pieces falling out. The lever and handle itself looks fine. It’s just the inner plastic connection that’s breaking. Better to change it out before we’re down a toilet during these critical times.
Minamoto Kitchoan Fukubukuro Unveiled
What’s in that $50 Fukubukuro bag from Minamoto Kitchoan?
I don’t shop there very often, but it looks like a haul of goodies was inside. Thanks to Jason for the pics and enduring Fukubukuro.
Minamoto Kitchoan Fukubukuro
Fighting the Fukubukuro crowds at Minamoto Kitchoan at Ala Moana leads to getting one of these bags. Priced at $50 but contains $100 worth of goodies. To be unveiled later today…
Oh and don’t try Sephora, their Fukubukuro packs were wiped out in 15 minutes.
