After Christmas Shopping at Ala Moana

Curious about the new Jade Dynasty Restaurant in Ala Moana? Long story short, a family of dim sum eaters who typically dine at Legend in Chinatown and Royal Garden in the Ala Moana Hotel enjoyed the food. Overall, we gave it four stars in our Yelp review.
Pictures of some of our dishes.
With the recent torrential rains, Ala Moana Center has had its share of power problems. Sections of the mall have been without power during crucial shopping times. Starting on Sunday, December 19, there’s been hours of power outages. Here’s just a few of the makeshift signs informing patrons of the closures.
Starbucks in Macy’s had the best handmade signs.
Shirokiya offered this “apology.”
Strangely enough, for a store that caters to Japanese visitors, I didn’t see a sign written in Japanese. Just signs like the one above giving out “Mahalo’z”.
Macy’s didn’t even bother with signs. I guess they let common sense rule – doors locked, lights are off, we must be closed.
Even without electricity, the Apple Store was still open on a limited basis.
With the lights off, you still could buy an iPad.
I guess with charged iOS devices equipped with credit card readers and 3G wireless service, purchases could still go through??
Inspired by this Abercrombie and Fitch poster, here are a few naughty and nice items I spied while shopping at Ala Moana.

What did I spot at Ala Moana this past weekend? How about this $175 Juicy bag for a grandmother?
Not your thing? How about some Nike Lunarglides?
And in case you forget, here’s a shirt to remind you.
Awesome (and expensive) Star Wars Lego.
And Legos are cool! Just ask Naveen Andrews aka Sayid on LOST who picked up some kits. Yes, that is really him. I recognize him from the last time. And no, I didn’t want to bug him for a picture during his family time in a crowded toy store full of people.
And as I was leaving while eating a wicked Haagen-Dazs Dazzler, I saw this tweet.
In celebration of Victoria’s Secret grand opening in Hawaii at Ala Moana, I offer this somewhat disturbing juxtaposition.
Yes, that’s a Victoria’s Secret bag toting The Good Book! Is “Give me sexy” a verse from Psalm?
Ala Moana is celebrating its 50th anniversary in the Islands and over these years, do you know 11 of its original merchants are still in operation? Can you name them?
Pictures of things I seen over the weekend.
Foot Locker is making its upstairs return at Ala Moana. Right now, Foot Locker is in the dungeons of the mall.
Here’s an inside peek.
It is true! Build-a-Bear is no longer.
Season or series finale for Janie and Jack kids clothes? This store is looking kinda bare inside. Supposedly it’s to get rid of last season’s stuff, but you never know.
Wow, is that right? Did the Ala Moana location of Build-A-Bear close down? It seemed like we were just there! The Build-A-Bear store locator shows the nearest location is either San Mateo (2386 miles) or Santa Clara (2400 miles away).
Oh well, at least we have Luna Lamb and Ovejita.
