Coffeemate Peppermint Mocha Got Dark

It took me a bit to notice, but there was something different about Coffee-mate’s Peppermint Mocha creamer. Yeah, yeah, I know this flavor is no longer seasonal during the winter and is offered year round. So what was different? Luckily I already had a bottle in the refrigerator to make a quick comparison.

Overall, the Peppermint Mocha look went dark. The snowy blue background is a deeper blue, and instead of showing the creamer lighten the coffee, you get a delicious image of dark chocolate cream sprinkled with peppermints. The peppermint mocha text also got stylized, looking more wintry. So, no, if you see this bottle, it’s not a new flavor, just a new design to an already favorite.

Girl Scouts Are Not Natural Bliss

Did you see Coffee-mate’s new creamer called Caramel & Coconut? This new flavor is a collaboration with the Girls Scouts, but odds are you probably overlooked this new creamer thinking it’s part of the Natural Bliss line.

Just look at the packaging, and you’ll understand how you can easily mistake this creamer. And if like me, you had a unflavorable run in with these natural creamers, like me, you now tune them out.

But the Girl Scout flavors are not Natural Bliss as visually indicated by the red cap (and lack of Natural Bliss labeling). I found this at Target by the way.

Black Cherry Streusel Cream? Um, no.

I went a little coffee cream crazy a while back, buying the new Coffee-mate flavors, Hazelnut Biscotti, Tiramisu, Italian Sweet Creme, and Black Cherry Streusel. I just tried the Black Cherry Streusel, and this flavor just doesn’t do it for me.

First off, this cream looks watery, pouring a little too freely from the bottle. My so-far-new-favorite, Italian Sweet Creme, pours “thicker” making it look richer and creamier. You can definitely taste the hints of black cherry in the cream, but its flavor is forced. There’s the coffee then there’s the fruity black cherry. The streusel part doesn’t bridge the two tastes.

I’ve been on the lookout for a good, fruity coffee cream since they sound so refreshing. The best I’ve had so far have been the Chocolate Raspberry and Coconut Creme. I won’t be adding Black Cherry Streusel to this list.

Coffee-mate Showcases Italy

Coffee-mate is at it again, introducing new flavors. This time, they went international and are featuring flavors from old Italia. Along with the recent additions of Black Cherry Streusel and Cinnamon Bun, Coffee-mates’s World Cafe Collection includes Hazelnut Biscotti, Tiramisu, and Italian Sweet Creme.

Strangely though, Coffee-mate’s web site makes no mention of these new flavors or the World Cafe Collection. What the site does have however is signing up for a free bottle of Coffee-mate. By taking a quick survey, Coffee-mate will mail you a coupon valid for one free bottle of Coffee-mate. Then you can try one of the new Italian jobs.

I went with the Italian Sweet Creme and thought it would be along the lines of the popular French Vanilla. I like it! This creamer does remind me of sweet creme paired with Italian desserts. Yum.

The Creamy Coffee Wars

There’s a war of coffee creams underway, and it’s all good for java drinkers. No sooner did Coffee-mate’s Blueberry Cobbler hit the store shelves, International Delight answered with a bevy of new flavors. International Delight’s palette looks to go after creamy, buttery combinations with a little bit of fruitiness. How’s these flavors sound?

I’ll have to try out the White Chocolate Raspberry first.

Blueberries and Coffee?

Blueberries and coffee? That’s not a typical combination I think of, but that’s the latest Coffee-mate creamer to enter the market. I saw the Coffee-mate Blueberry Cobbler creamer at Safeway and had to try it out.

Fruity flavors must be the theme for summer with Starbucks’ orange drinks and now this blueberry creamer. What does it taste like? Imagine a piece of blueberry cobbler. Now dunk it into your coffee cup, and you got it. This creamer smells authentic, but for me, the taste took a little getting used to since I’m not used to blueberries and coffee. Raspberry, yes. Orange, yes. Coconut, yes. Blueberry, not yet.

Coffee-mate has mastered the scent of their creamers which greatly influences taste. You smell blueberry cobbler, so you think blueberry cobbler, then you taste blueberry cobbler. Same with their chocolate raspberry flavor (which I haven’t seen around for a bit).

So if you want something a little bit different for your morning cup, have some blueberry cobbler with your coffee.

Coffee, Coffee Cream, and Exploding Coffee

Just a few updates about my drinking addiction to coffee… I found the new Starbucks canned Iced Coffee drink at the market and tried one. Not bad. The coffee flavor reminds me of a weak version of Starbucks Double Shot drink. Low in calories and fat, nice can design, a little on the pricey side. Would buy more of these when they go on sale. There’s also a Lite version that’s sweetened with Splenda.

I also sampled Coffee-mate’s new creamer flavor, Coconut Creme. The coconut flavor is pretty mild, but the aroma is great. Before you sip your coffee, you can smell that coconut and anticipate the taste. I think Coffee-mate learned this with their Chocolate Raspberry flavor. Same deal, great smell that enhances the flavor as you take a sip.

Lastly, I never did try my Wolfgang Puck Gourmet Latte in a self-heating can. I was holding on to it for just the right moment (like a power outage when I needed a caffeine fix), but now, I read this article talking about defects in the can that can cause serious damage to the consumer. Unofficially, about one in every five cans has some type of problem – not heating properly, funny taste, or even an exploding can. Yikes! Maybe I’ll hold on to my can and sell it on eBay in the future.

Fruity Chocolatey Goodness Comes to Hawaii

Happened to be at Safeway in Hawaii Kai looking for this year’s Slam Kicks issue when I saw a bottle of fruity chocolatey goodness, Coffee-mate’s Chocolate Raspberry creamer. It’s finally reached Hawaii. On past years trips to Cali, I’ve been guzzling this stuff down. It’s yummy! Yes, I’ve even had this stuff imported on a few occasions.

Don’t know why it took so long to come to Hawaii. Maybe rapper Kanye West had some choice words for Nestle. Or maybe the rich, white folks in Hawaii Kai complained enough? It don’t matter, you just got to give it a try.

Wayne’s World, this is why you leave space for cream in your cup of joe.

Tangent #1: the Hawaii Kai Safeway is nice, very nice compared to other Safeways I’ve been to. Kind of a rustic decor.

Tangent #2: this Safeway still suffered from a shortage of the purple carton Lactaid milk. It ain’t just Kailua.
