Tuneless in the Morning

Since I’ll be returning my recalled Belkin TuneBase iPod adapter, I am now tuneless for the work commute. Back to the FM airwaves it is. Listening to Rory and Gregg on 98.5 again brought up mixed emotions – the pair is great, but the music format is not for me.

The morning music on 93.9 seems to have ratcheted back to the days of the Wake-Up Crew, less aggressive and more mainstream. Maleko on the 93.9 Morning Show was okay but made me proud when I heard the “buy a Mac” comment. Maleko was talking about upgrading to Windows 7, and one of his suggestions (or was it from Flash?) was to “get a Mac.” That made me smile.

Belkin TuneBase Recall

In case you didn’t hear, Belkin is recalling certain models of their TuneBase in-car iPod adapter. Under certain conditions, these faulty products pose a risk of fire. Not good right?

I got the F8Z176 which was part of a bigger kit purchased from Costco.

Airplane Observations

Probably goes without saying, but there are sure a lot of iPods in use on our flight. Walking the aisles, I see a variety of models, mainly Nanos, but also Classics.

On the laptop front, there more ThinkPads on board. There are a few MacBooks around.

A Zuny New Year!

2009 rang in and Microsoft Zune players around the world stopped working. Due to a glitch with its internal clock, 30GB Zune models froze and would not reset. This “Zune Y2K9” bug should rectify itself by letting the battery die, recharging it, then turning the Zune back on.

Frustrated Zune users, if you’re looking for a change, this guy might have a suggestion.

iPod Earbud Cords Are a Safe Length

I never knew why earphone and earbud cord lengths are the way they are. Now I know. I go for walks listening to my iPod, and one time, I was in a rush and and my iPod slipped out of my hands as I was turning it on.

Fortunately, I already had the earbuds in place . As the iPod fell towards the ground, I saw the earbud cord unravel and act as a safety line keeping my iPod from crashing to the ground. Whew!

So I’d say the iPod earbud cords are a safe length.

Apple’s Back to School Special is Touchy!

Egads! Apple just announced their annual Back to School special where you buy a qualifying Mac and get big discounts or a free iPod. This year, Apple is covering the $299 cost of an 8-GB iPod Touch! You can also apply the discount to a Nano or bigger capacity Touch, but getting the “low end” Touch for free is way cool. Buy a MacBook for $999 and get a $299 Touch for free – sounds like a winning deal.

Looking to upgrade your current Mac? A family member interested in going Mac? Now’s a good time to buy where you can barter your Mac expertise and consultation into a iPod Touch or Nano. What would your parents do with an iPod anyways? 😉

I guess this blowout also means new Touches are on their way. Promotion runs from June 3, 2008 through September 15, 2008.
