Civil Beat Inspired Kicks
Have you seen the redesign of the Civil Beat web site? It’s cleaner and has more visual elements that pop.
So how would this new design translate to Nike kicks? Well, it might look like these (iconic) Air Max 95s.
The “light” colorway.
The “dark” colorway.
I’d rock either of these (in a size 10)! And yes, the custom embroidered text is #becivil.
“Congratulations! You burned a tremendous amount of calories”
After running with my Nike+ system, I heard a congratulatory message saying I burned a tremendous amount of calories. What I would have preferred is something like this:
“Congratulations! You burned a tremendous amount of calories. Now go celebrate with an ice cream cone.”
Or maybe from a marketing and partnership standpoint:
“Congratulations! You burned a tremendous amount of calories. Now go celebrate with a treat from one of our many partners.” Then from the Nike+ web site, I could browse various vendors and print out a discount coupon or something.
Or maybe even:
“Congratulations! You burned a tremendous amount of calories. Now go check in with one of our partners and celebrate with a treat.” If Nike were partnered with a geolocation service like Foursquare or Gowalla, a check-in at a Nike+ partner location would give you immediate specials at that location.
Just a thought anyways but for now, I’ll take the virtual pat on the back.
Mixed Emotions About Nike Air Max Modular 95
Not sure what to think about the Nike Air Max Modular 95 hybrid. At first glance, it looks plain but then a clean, classic look starts emerging. That back/heel view is killer though, and the colorway is, of course, great.
A Sad Day for Kicks
It’s a sad day when you have to retire your kicks from your wardrobe rotation. Even sadder is the day when you have to get rid of unwearable kicks. Such was earlier this week when I said good bye to some favorites.
What do you see? Yes, those are the Air Jordan XIII, And1 Tai Chi, Air Max Penny IV, Tuned Air running shoes, and a pair of B&W Air Max Uptempo buried under the rest. And here’s a closeup of another favorite, the Nike 6453, that’s completely falling apart on the underside.
A sad day indeed.
Street Fighter Inspired Kicks
Nike might be set to release kicks inspired by popular Street Fighter characters. First up are sneakers designed after Chun Li and Ryu.
Subtle style, but you can definitely see the design elements from the SF warriors. I’m hoping for Nike’s take on a Guile inspired shoe.
Where’s the Respect for King James, Nike?
So Lebron James wins his second (and back-to-back) NBA MVP award, and Nike commemorates this accomplishment of their marquee star with a special shirt. Much respect.
But check out the suggested “You might also like…” section further down the page. Kobe Bryant in the house!
How about suggesting some Lebron kicks or clothing Nike? Where’s the respect? But then again 24 > 23.
Get Rid of the Crappy Stuff. Just Do It.
What advice did Steve Jobs give to Nike’s president, Mark Parker? “Get rid of the crappy stuff.”

Awesome NBA Twitterness
This is a neat way to represent Twitter conversations for the NBA playoffs. Nike and Stamen designed this dynamic display that is continually updated based on tweets for these teams. Clicking on a team shows team-specific tweets along with Nike’s family members and their kicks. Try it out here.
Musical Kicks, Is This For Real?
I have a hard time believing this video is legit, but then again, my Asian kin are known for doing some wacky, way out stuff. I mean, who would think of using Nike Free Run+ shoes to control musical instruments? These DJs are wiggety wack geniuses!
Almost Pitied Pacquiao
Manny Pacquiao almost had me. After hearing about the boxer’s canceled concert in Hawaii, I felt for the poor guy. The Pac Man must be so busy whooping everyone’s butt, running for office in the Philippines, entertaining fans with his vocals, and inspiring his very own Nike kicks.
So there I was, faced with these, the Nike Air Trainer SC 2010 in a special Pac Man colorway.
Do I get them and give Pac Man his props? Alas, I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t justifiably rock the colors of the Philippine nation. So instead, I went with a more traditional white colorway.
Sorry Pac Man.
And how are the Air Trainer SC 2010? Not bad at all, especially when using a Footlocker Friends and Family discount. This is the first shoe I have with FlyWire, and it’s interesting. With the thin FlyWire providing strength and support, there’s less shoe material and weight. The shoe also flexes until you hit the tension of the FlyWire. For whatever reason, I had to get a 0.5 size smaller shoe. The smaller size gave a more lock down fit while my regular size felt too spacious. Something to do with the FlyWire construction?

Nike Air Trainer 1 “No Ka Oi”
These Nike Air Trainer 1’s are inspired by Brandon Roy and the Portland Trailblazers, but they sure have that No Ka Oi feel.
