No Frogs But Foam Tigers

foamposite-tigerNope, I didn’t get the Frogs, but I did manage to capture these Foamposite Tigers. Total luck and perserverance as I kept trying on City Gear, the only early supplier of this shoe.

Nike has since launched a larger release of the Air Foamposite One Tiger Stripes, but I bombed on getting any more pairs. While I’ve never owned a pair of Foams before, I don’t think I’ll start with these Memphis Tigers-themed ones. Now that I think about it, this is one of the few Penny models I haven’t owned.

No Frog Blazers

Totally didn’t expect how hard it would be, but I just couldn’t find a pair of Nike SB Blazers in collaboration with Frog Skateboards. Targeted at skaters, most inventory accordingly released in skate shops, and many of them didn’t sell online. The few with an online store were wiped out quick.

Hoping these are released in the near future. So different from the typical Nike aesthetic.

My Relationship with Nordstorm Is Strange

This post’s title says it all. I’ve said good things about Nordstrom, but I’ve shared mostly bad experiences shopping online. Why you ask? Because this customer service-centric company does stuff like this.

They cancel two of my online orders due to lack of stock. Yet, what did I see while poking around men’s shoes this past week?

Yup, this floral Air Force 1 was the first of my cancellations. But it doesn’t end there. Scrolling down on the page, I came across these Air Max 98 Wild West.

No kidding. This had been the second of my cancellations, and to top it off, both of these shoes were nearly the sizes of my cancelled order (I had ordered a size 10 AF1 and a 10.5 AM98. Both of those in stock are size 10). I have to assume both models came from other cancelled orders or returns.

And then, here’s the kicker. Remember back in October 2018 when my Nordstrom order for the Nike React Element 87 was cancelled? Yes, this chronicled one of my earlier disappointments with Nordstrom. Guess what showed up online? The same exact shoe that was cancelled – Nike React Element 87 Total Orange colorway in size 10.5. Some kind of twisted fate?

I placed my order knowing the probable outcome and look what showed up.

There was no original box, but the shoes are fine. I don’t know what happened here – a very late return, hiding in the warehouse, old stock from a retail location? I guess I need to say thanks Nordstrom. Let’s just work on fulfilling orders the first time around. šŸ˜‰

Off-White Zip Tie, On or Off?

While I have not had the luxury of owning (okay, keeping) a pair of Nike and Off-White “The Ten” collaborations, I do wonder if you’re supposed to leave the telltale zip tie on or are you supposed to remove it? I would guess it gets in the way when walking, but on the same token, it really does stand out.

The Off-White brand isn’t very helpful either in their instructional video.

Foot Locker Likes to Mess with Air Jordan 1 Fans

Foot Locker surely likes to mess around with the fans of the Air Jordan 1. If you’ve ever searched their site for “Air Jordan 1,” you’ll come across many models from the mid tops to the more popular high tops. Sometimes even popular, coveted AJ1 highs show up in inventory. Or does it?

Gotta Give It to Nike

You gotta give it to Nike and give credit where credit is due. During Super Bowl LIII, sneakerheads were watching the Super Bowl halftime show as Travis Scott performed in his signature Air Jordan 1 model. The hope, of course, was that Nike would shock drop those shoes when Scott took the stage, similar to Justin Timberlake’s Air Jordan 3 Tinker surprise release.

But that would be cliche. Fast forward to today, a Sunday night when Travis Scott performed at the Grammys. Nike did their thing and shook it up with a late night shock drop. Even during this off-peak time, this limited release went fast. I managed to get in the virtual line but did not get the hoped for “Got’em” message.

Although I wasn’t successful, I gotta admire the Swoosh for doing something different, keeping it fresh. Now, I just gotta hope for better luck whenever the bigger release happens.

Is the Nike Exp-X14 a Failed Experiment?

First of all, I love my X14 featuring Nike React foam. Yeah, so I could never land an Element 87 for retail but the X14 has filled in nicely. But the name of this shoe is simply confusing (for a Nike shoe) and not memorable.

Maybe that’s why the same looking shoe is showing up with the new name of Future Fast Racer.

Or is this just a mistake?

Iā€™m Not Versed in the Spider-Verse

Obviously, I am not versed in the language of the Spider-Verse. Otherwise I would have understood Foot Locker’s rules for the release of the upcoming Air Jordan 1 Origin Story.

Here’s a visual summary of what I got using the Foot Locker app.

If I could read the language of the Spider-Verse, I would have deciphered that the sweepstakes entry closed on Tuesday, December 11. You see that on that black instruction screen right?

So don’t go down to Foot Locker Ala Moana asking for these kicks. Spider-Man has gone into the Spider-Verse.

Holiday Gift Guide 2018 Pink Box of Memories

Talking about nostalgia, how about giving a pink box of memories to a sneaker head for Christmas? But it’s what’s inside the pink box that’ll be the gift itself and also one that triggers memories.

Inside the pink Nike SB box, you’ll find these. Do you remember them?

Okay, they aren’t the replica of the original Tiffany blue colorway, but otherwise these bring back the memories. Even when opening the box, that smell is familiar.

Nike SB did an excellent job with these and at “only” $100. Extra laces, removable swoosh, and those silver aglets are a nice touch. If you can find this 2018 version of the Diamond Dunks (black, white, or even yellow), you’ll make a shoehead happy this holidays.

Holiday Gift Guide 2018 Air Jordan 1 Rookie of the Year NOT

Okay, this is NOT how you start the Holidays. When you get a reservation for an item, you, well, assume the item is available to you unless specifically declined. So when I received this notification from Nike, I was very well pleased.

A total surprise for sure since I’m not in Nike’s top tier of purchasers spending big bucks week after week. Still as a loyal, longtime fan of Nike and Jordan brand, it was satisfying to see this dedication rewarded. So I proceeded to make my purchase and saw this.

Key in the bottom of the screen that says “Out of Stock.” Out of stock? For an item reserved for me? What’s that about? Did everyone with a reservation buy before me and snatched up all the reserved pairs? That still didn’t make since since I had until 3pm (HST) to make my purchase.

After an online chat with Nike customer service, it seems the release of the AJ1 Rookie of the Year was premature or mistakenly sent to too many customers. So if you want to gift this interesting AJ1 colorway (themed after MJ’s outfit during the ROTY announcement), you have to try for them when they generally release.

Now of course, Nike can easily make up for this grinch-like faux paux by really reserving me a pair. šŸ˜‰ Wink, wink Nike.
