The Weather Channel is premiering a new series called From the Edge with Peter Lik that captures the beauty of America in pictures.

The Don Quijote location in Kailua is no longer, but for a few days, it’s home to Hawaii Five-0.
Look closely, is that Danno’s Camaro back there?
Why, yes it is!
Well sorta. We were at Don Quijote Kailua on their last day of business. The local news stations were there too and filmed me in the background of some clips. Here’s the KHON2 broadcast segment.
Look at the 0:37-0:41 second mark. See the guy wearing the black Air Jordan cap? That’s me walking and loading up the van! Can’t see it? I’ll help you out (click on the images for a larger view).
For those of us living in Hawaii, we know Hawaii is paradise. But for the millions of viewers of the rebooted CBS television series, Hawaii Five-0, they see Hawaii’s dark and violent side necessitating the elite task force known as Five-0.
After the first two episodes, the tone of violence in Hawaii is set. Cops, criminals, and even the locals are armed and ready to open fire when the opportunity presents itself. Pow! Pow!
Going to a high school football really means you’re going to a gunfight. And better yet, the Chinese Triads and Samoan gangs will be there too.
You won a trip to Hawaii? Don’t come, you might be kidnapped or murdered by a prison escapee.
Okay, okay, if you can overlook Glee’s Football Coach and Physical Educator, Ken Tanaka, portraying a Filipino terrorist then you’ll realize that Philippine terrorists operate in Hawaii.

Only in Hawaii are triathlon competitions used to cover up jewelry and bank heists.

During the Christmas holidays, you might find your self with a bomb strapped around your neck. Could happen anywhere.

Tourists, it’s best you be aware of the dangers of Hawaii.
Ross Dress for Less might as well be called Stuff for Less with the eclectic collection of discounted items they offer. If you’re in search for an HDMI cable to connect your High Definition television to a Blu-ray player or AppleTV, check the nearest Ross. You might luck out.
$9 for a 6-ft name brand cable. While probably not the cheapest for an HDMI cable, you save on shipping and time by buying locally.
So what’d you think of the remade, rebooted, remixed Hawaii Five-O? Is it still a classic? Only time will tell, but the premiere episode definitely was fun!
Some thoughts and wonderings.
I never knew how serious and epidemic the criminal element was in Hawaii. Even Governor Lingle stand-in was fed up and wanted the criminal SOBs off her island. I mean where ever you went the public was armed and ready for a shootout. And what timing for Aloun farms and the forced labor workforce to coincide with the H5O subplot of human exporting. Who watching thought about the pumpkin patch when the cargo load of imported Asians was discovered?
I thought Five-O did an excellent job portraying the visual beauty of the islands. Every lead-in was a scenic sight to see. Even tents on beach got airtime. But I wonder why locations like Kukui High School had to be made up? Why not use real location names?
Say what? Okay, so I’m a fake Hawaiian akin to imitation crab, but I’ve never heard “bird” in pidgin. I need to update my Hawaiian slang list with all the gems spoken by the Five-O cast.
So yeah, even with its imperfections, Hawaii Five-O is still fun, and I’ll be sticking around for more episodes.
If you missed the premiere episode, you can now view it online at CBS, and here’s the trailer along with the iconic theme song.
More from Five-O on their Hawaii Five-O blog.
Gotta do a flight check on my Tivo with a bunch of shows taking off this week.
Let’s see, the conclusion of Season 1 of The Gates should have recorded on Sunday. It ain’t a bad show, kinda a poor man’s Underworld but in a modern context where you’re the unusual one if you’re not a mythical creature.
For Monday, Hawaii Five-O premieres (in HD!!) along with Season 11 of Dancing with the Stars (also in HD!!).
Tuesday showcases Glee and even more DWTS.
On Wednesday, the behind-the-scenes Top Chef episode is followed by Top Chef: Just Desserts.
Hawaii’s Andy South and Ivy Higa continue their Project Runway journey on Thursday, and Mililani’s Maggie Q takes on the Division on Nikita. Grey’s Anatomy kicks off after a monstrous season finale.
Then it’s Friday and the weekend when I can watch all these hours of great television. Tivo, don’t fail me now!
The new “old” series, Nikita, starts on September 9 on the CW and stars Hawaii-raised, Maggie Q.
But no, you can’t yet set your Tivo to record the series.
